Now when I jump on the gas it takes off like a banshee! I think it's a decent drag racer mode. It takes about 30 minutes to do this part. So I went back into my garage and tried the 87 Performance Tune. I could easily hit 70MPH in a strong wind without any problems. The throttle response wasn't noticeably different. I have the 3.73 gears and with 35" tires the Jeep is still performing really good. I went for a drive around the Twin Cities to see how it felt without any tune change. That's about what they measure ground to top of tire while on the Jeep. For the Goodyear Duratrac 315/70/17 tires I finally ended up at adjusting to 34" with the FlashPaq. It's still about 1-2MPH under and I'm good with that. So I readjusted to 1/4" smaller and that's pretty close. Using a GPS Speed app on my phone I was able to verify that initially I was about 10MPH over before the adjustment, then about 3-5MPH under after the adjustment. The first thing I did was adjust the tire size. I don't think you will go wrong with either one. People claim the tunes make a difference, for me gearing made the biggest difference and I could care less about the tunes it provides. I have no doubt the FlashPaq is probably and excellent unit, but if I were to buy another one I wouldn't attempt to update it, just use it right from the box. I just used it straight out of the box and it works fine. I did not attempt to update it this time. I still needed to reprogram for my axles and tires so I reluctantly bought the FlashCal. I tried different computers and a different internet connection but couldn't get it to update. When I called Superchips they said I had some type of firewall blocking the update either on my modem or computer. It basically fried the unit and would not update. I bought one and as per the directions I attempted to update it via usb cord on my computer before plugging it into my Jeep. (The procal is comparable to this)īefore I bought the FlashCal I read up on the FlashPaq and heard nothing but good things about it. I currently have a FlashCal I use to reprogram tire size and used it to adjust my gear ratio when I had my gears done. (I found the above comparison in this thread - thank you CipherShort for the great post over there!) My Jeep Specs: 2013 JKU automatic trans with 3.73 gears. My basic question is: Is the FlashPaq worth the extra money? Are the extra 'tuning' options useful or worth the cost of admission? However, I was wondering who has used these and if there's a preference. So, in terms of cost both of these are valid options for me. I know I will never remember to get used to the speedo being off a bit and end up with a ticket. In the mean time I have been reading about reprogramming my Jeep for the larger tires. I have new wheels and 35" tires on order and I hope they will be here this week.
